Seventy years ago, my grandfather James H. Womack, started the nursery at its current location. Prior to that, he had worked at Fitzgerald’s Nursery near Stephenville for thirteen years. In the beginning, sales were mostly out of the back of a pickup truck, at either the Comanche or Eastland County square.

My dad, Larry J. Womack, started full time with the nursery in 1956, and with the death of James H. in 1964, he took over operation of the nursery. At age 72, Larry Jim is still very active in tree propagation and shipping. As most people around De Leon will tell you, it’s not uncommon to see Dad budding or grafting trees at 7 o’clock at night. It’s his love of horticulture that helps us bring quality products to the marketplace.

In 1983, I joined the nursery full time, bringing in the third generation. We have now grown from a one man operation in 1937 to over six full time, and fifteen part time employees. We all would like to thank you for your patronage, and we will continue to strive to produce high quality, reliable plants to you, our valued customer.
